Kevin Feige: MCU Has ‘Barely Scratched the Surface’ After 32 Movies

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is happy with where the company is. He thinks that — even more than 30 films in — the world of the MCU hasn’t even scratched the surface.

Speaking to Variety on a profile on the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Feige likened the MCU to the larger world of Marvel Comics. As Feige put it, they’ve been going for almost 100 years, so he believes the MCU has just “barely scratched the surfaced.”

“The great thing about Marvel truly is how many wonderful, interesting characters we have in the comics — they’ve been at it for 85 years,” said Feige. “Even after 32 movies, it feels like we’ve barely scratched the surface.”

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a big one

The Marvel Cinematic Universe began 15 years ago with 2008’s Iron Man, and has since stretched across 32 movies and 10 different television series, including Disney+’s Loki Season 2, which premiered earlier this month.

Up next for Marvel Studios is The Marvels, which is set to premiere on November 10, 2023, and will star Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris, and Samuel L. Jackson. Franchises like X-Men and The Fantastic Four are also still yet to come, although little is known about the two franchises as of now.
