Foe Trailer: Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal Star in Sci-Fi Drama

Amazon Studios released the trailer for Foe, a sci-fi dystopian drama starring Academy Award nominees Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal. Foe is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 6.

The trailer highlights the marriage between Ronan’s Henrietta and Mescal’s Junior. Set in 2065, a mysterious stranger named Terrance (Aaron Pierre) arrives on their doorstep with a proposition for Junior: to pilot a space program. Although Junior must leave Hen behind on Earth, she would be cared for by an AI version of himself. “Whatever we decide, we’ll be together,” Mescal’s Junior states as he embraces his wife.

What to Expect in Foe?

“Academy Award nominees Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal star in Foe, a haunting exploration of marriage and identity set in an uncertain world. Hen and Junior farm a secluded piece of land that has been in Junior’s family for generations, but their quiet life is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger (Aaron Pierre) shows up at their door with a startling proposal,” the official synopsis reads. “Based on best-selling author Iain Reid’s novel, directed by Garth Davis and co-written by Davis and Reid, Foe’s mesmerizing imagery and persistent questions about the nature of humanity (and artificial humanity) bring the not-too-distant future to luminous life.”

Garth Davis, the director behind Lion and Mary Magdalene, directed Foe on a script he co-wrote with Iain Reid. Foe is adapted from the 2018 novel of the same name by Reid. Producers include Davis, Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Emile Sherman, and Iain Canning. Foe is an Amazon Studios film produced by I Am That Productions, Anonymous Content, Screen Australia, and See-Saw Film.

Foe will premiere at the 2023 New York Film Festival this fall.
