Mayday: Ryan Reynolds to Lead Apple’s Action-Adventure From D&D Movie Directors

Following the successful theatrical release of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, directing duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley have finally found their next high-profile project in the form of an action-adventure movie titled Mayday. Deadline brings word that Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh have signed on for the leading roles in the movie, whose production start date is still currently undetermined due to the ongoing WGA strike.

Who’s Involved in Mayday?

Mayday will be written and directed by Goldstein and Daley, based on their original pitch. Further details about the project are still being kept under wraps. This marks the filmmaking duo’s latest collaboration after previously working together in Horrible Bosses, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Game Night.

The film will be produced by Reynolds, Ashley Fox, John Pariseau, Patrick Gooing, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger. It hails from Skydance and Maximum Effort, with Carin Sage set to oversee the project in behalf of Skydance.

The action-adventure will also reunite Reynolds with Apple following the premiere of last year’s Christmas musical Spirited. The blockbuster star is currently in production for Marvel Studios’ highly-anticipated Deadpool 3, which serves as his first entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He will also next be seen in John Krasinski’s star-studded fantasy comedy IF.

Meanwhile, Branagh is currently attached to appear in two high-profile movies this year including Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer biopic and A Haunting in Venice, the third installment to 20th Century Studios’ Agatha Christie movies. The latter will see Branagh reprising his detective role as Hercule Poirot.
