Listen to an Exclusive Track From The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry

ComingSoon is pleased to premiere an exclusive track called “The Sleeping and The Waking” from The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, featuring music by Starr Parodi and Jeff Fair. You can purchase the soundtrack on December 9.

The music has both a deeply emotional element and a playful element to it. The most playful pieces of music are based around the mystery part of the story and the relationship that develops between AJ Fikry, Lambiase (David Arquette), and the young child. The piano and the full-string orchestra are the main sonic pallet for the more emotional portions of the story, keeping lots of space without a strict tempo.

“Once we came up with a sound pallet that resonated with the film, we really developed a language with the director Hans Canosa,” said Starr and Jeff. “We wanted the music to reflect the sense of community that existed on the small New England Island where most of the story takes place. We did this by creating long areas of musical space and simplicity with the voices of solo instruments, and their sense of intimacy. It was also very important to us that the music breathe and wasn’t locked to any strict tempo.”

Based on the New York Times best-selling novel, bookstore owner A.J. Fikry’s (Kunal Nayyar) life is not turning out as he expected as he struggles both emotionally and financially. After his wife’s tragic death, he feels lost and left behind in the rapidly evolving world of today. As he tries to keep his store afloat, he begins to drink his sorrows away, ultimately hitting rock bottom when his most prized possession, a series of Edgar Allen Poe poems, is stolen. But when a mysterious package appears at the bookstore, the unexpected arrival gives Fikry a new lease on life, and love, that are greater than he ever imagined.
