Don’t Worry Darling: Chris Pine’s Character is Inspired by Jordan Peterson

Speaking to actress Maggie Gyllenhaal in a recent conversation for Interview Magazine, Wilde revealed that Pine’s character was actually inspired by Canadian author and clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson.

“We based that character on this insane man, Jordan Peterson, who is this pseudo-intellectual hero to the incel community,” said Wilde of the character. The pair then went on to discuss the term “incels,” with Wilde describing it as “basically disenfranchised, mostly white men, who believe they are entitled to sex from women.

While not too much is known about Pine’s role as Frank, the trailer does paint the man as charismatic and seemingly able to draw in a large following. However, the trailer also hints at some mysteries laying under the surface of Pine’s character, leaving him overall untrustworthy in the footage fans have seen so far.

“Jordan Peterson is someone that legitimizes certain aspects of their movement because he’s a former professor,” says Wilde. “He’s an author, he wears a suit, so they feel like this is a real philosophy that should be taken seriously.”
