Its current theatrical release date will see the live-action/CG film going up against James Cameron’s long-in-development Avatar 3. It will also be debuting in the same month as another high-profile project in the form of the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 starred Parks and Recreation vet Ben Schwartz, James Marsden (Westworld), Tika Sumpter (Ride Along), Natasha Rothwell (Wonder Woman 1984), Adam Pally (The Mindy Project), Jim Carrey (Kidding), and Shemar Moore, with Colleen O’Shaughnessey (Blade Runner: Black Lotus) as Tails and Idris Elba (The Suicide Squad) as Knuckles.

The sequel was directed by Jeff Fowler, who made his feature directorial debut on the hit predecessor. The film earned a worldwide gross of over $400 million at the box office against a reported $90-110 million budget.

In addition to Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Paramount Pictures is also currently developing a spin-off series centered around Elba’s Knuckles, which will debut on Paramount+.
