According to Deadline, CBS is currently in the process of developing a reboot of the classic 1950s sitcom titled The Honeymooners, which hails from New Girl‘s Damon Wayans Jr. The original series only aired for one season from 1955-1956, where it starred the late comedy veteran Jackie Gleason.

Described as a bold and female-driven story, The Honeymooners reboot will be directed by Kelly Park from a screenplay written by Lindsey Shockley. It will be executive produced by Park and Shockley along with Wayans Jr. and Kameron Tarlow for Two Shakes Entertainment.

“It centers around new wife Ruth and her husband Alex who are determined to have a marriage where they are true equals in every way,” reads the logline. “But what happens when a marriage has two heads of the household? Are they co-heads? Or no head at all?”

Based on the recurring comedy sketch that was featured on The Jackie Gleason show, the original sitcom starred Gleeson, Audrey Meadows, Art Carney, and Joyce Randolph. It was one of the first U.S. TV shows that portrayed a working-class married couple in a non-idyllic manner. Despite its brief run, Carney was still able to bag an Emmy Award for his performance in the show.
