Fate of the Furious Director Reunites With Vin Diesel for Muscle

F. Gary Gray, the man behind the camera for the record-breaking eighth installment in The Fast & The Furious franchise, will once again team up with Vin Diesel for Muscle. This new film is an action-comedy set to enter production soon under STXfilms. Details about the film are being kept under wraps for now, with the studio working from a script currently drafted by John Swetnam and Malcolm Spellman.

STXfilms chairman Adam Fogelson commented on the hiring, stating that he’s perfect for the job.

“Over the years, Vin and I have worked together on a number of hit movies, and it’s a thrill to reteam Vin and Gary after their billion-dollar success on The Fate of the Furious,” said Fogelson. “This will become one of the most eagerly anticipated films on our slate.”

Besides The Fate of the Furious, F. Gary Gray has also helmed such films as Straight Outta ComptonLaw Abiding Citizen, and The Italian Job. His future plans include directing toy adaption M.A.S.K. for Paramount and Hasbro and helping to bring video game franchise Saints Row to the big screen.

Vin Diesel, who was last in theaters pre-pandemic in superhero film Bloodshot, will soon star in the long-delayed F9 alongside John Cena. His production company One Race Films is one of the companies behind Muscle. Diesel and his company are also producing several new TV projects following the successful Netflix launch of the animated spinoff of his Fast and Furious franchise, Fast & Furious: Spy Racers.
