This Country & The Lost Boys Pilots Halting Productions

This year’s pilot season has definitely taken a big hit as more TV pilots, both in broadcast and streaming, have been continuing to shut down their productions in response to the global efforts to prevent the number of COVID-19 cases from further increasing. Now, Deadline is reporting that productions on Paul Feig’s new Fox comedy pilot This Country and The CW’s retooled The Lost Boys pilot have officially been delayed, which make them the last two broadcast pilots that have been suspended. Both pilots only had a few days left before they can wrapped up their productions.

This Country is a half-hour mockumentary inspired by the BBC Three scripted format, originally created by Daisy May Cooper and Charlie Cooper. The show follows the daily lives of cousins Kelly and Shrub Mallet, who are trailed by a documentary crew who go to a small town to study young adults and their current concerns in an idiosyncratic surrounding. The show follows the pair as they pursue their dreams, confront challenges and fight each other for frozen pizza.

Starring Sean William Scott, the comedy hails from executive producers Jenny Bicks and Paul Feig which will be part of their overall deals with Lionsgate TV. Feig is also directing from a script written by Bicks.

Last year, the remake’s first pilot which was directed by Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has undergone a lot of changes including re-shoots and recasting of all the first pilot’s cast members with the exception of two actors, Medalion Rahimi (Before I Fall) and Dakota Shapiro (Valley of the Boom). However, the planned reshoots fell through because the network ultimately decided to restart the whole production.

Heather Mitchell and Rob Thomas’ long-in-development series adaptation of The Lost Boys is based on director Joel Schumacher‘s 1987 horror-comedy of the same name (purchase it here). The new pilot will feature a whole new cast led by Branden Cook (Industry), Lincoln Younes (Grand Hotel), and Ruby Cruz (Castle Rock). It will be directed by Marcos Siega, who is known for directing episodes of many TV series such as The Vampire Diaries, The Following, Blindspot, You and Batwoman.
