Carra Patterson & Lyndsy Fonseca Joins Disney+’s Turner & Hooch

Peck’s Scott Turner, who was famously portrayed by Academy Award winner Tom Hanks in the film, is being described as an ambitious, buttoned-up U.S. Marshall who suddenly inherits a big unruly dog, soon realizing the pet he didn’t want may be the partner he needs. This version will be different from the film as Hanks’ character was originally a police detective.

Fonseca has signed on to star as Laura, Scott’s sister and mother to 7-year-old Matthew, who is a dog lover and brings her brother their late father’s legacy, the slobbery dog named Hooch. Laura and Scott are close with each other, and their mother, with whom she learns that her father’s death may not have been an accident.

Patterson is set to play Jessica, Scott’s partner who is the opposite of his uptight manner and is brave and quick-thinking on the job, finding herself in occasional trouble as her sense of humor gets in the way. Having genuine respect and support for Scott, she’s more than happy to see Hooch take over as his sidekick on cases.

The series reboot will be written and executive produced by Matt Nix (The Gifted, Burn Notice) as part of his overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV. Bones‘ Josh Levy will also serves as an executive producer.

The original Turner & Hooch film was directed by Roger Spottiswoode. It followed Hanks’ uptight California detective Scott Turner as his life is uprooted when is he forced to partner up with the drooling junkyard dog Hooch, as the Dogue de Bordeaux was witness to the murder of his owner and can identify the killer. In addition to Hanks, the original film starred Mare Winningham and Craig Nelson.

Turner and Hooch joins a list of properties being rebooted and reimagined by Disney+ including Diary of a Wimpy KidHome Alone and Night at the Museum, amongst others. The 1989 film is currently available for streaming on the new streaming service. The Home Alone reboot recently cast Archie Yates (Jojo Rabbit), Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and Rob Delaney (Catastrophe).
