Monáe is set to portray a tenacious woman who finds herself floating in a canoe, with no memory of how she got there — or even who she is. There is no current confirmation on which cast members from the first season will return.

In addition to the two returning cast members and a new leading lady, the new season will also see The Stanford Prison Experiment director Kyle Patrick Alvarez will step behind the camera, replacing Mr. Robot‘s Sam Esmail from the first season.

“We’re so lucky to have Kyle Alvarez on board to direct Season two — his enthusiasm and relentless creativity are already taking the show in exciting new directions,” series creators and executive producers Micah Bloomberg and Eli Horowitz said in a statement. “And we’re thrilled that Stephan and Hong will be returning — we can’t wait to watch as they take their characters on these surprising journeys, far beyond anything we could have expected.”

In the recent 76th Golden Globe Awards, Homecoming earned three nominations in three major categories including Best Actress in a Television Series Drama for Roberts’ performance as a caseworker. The series came home empty-handed at the ceremony.

Heidi Bergman is a caseworker at the Homecoming Transitional Support Center, a Geist Group facility helping soldiers transition back to civilian life. Walter Cruz (Stephan James) is one of these soldiers, eager to begin the next phase of his life. Overseeing Heidi and the facility is Colin Belfast (Bobby Cannavale), an ambitious company man whose manic demands point to questionable motives.

Four years later, Heidi has started a new life, living with her mother (Sissy Spacek) and working as a small-town waitress, when a Department of Defense auditor (Shea Whigham) comes to her with questions about why she left the Homecoming facility. Heidi begins to realize that there’s a whole other story behind the story she’s been telling herself.
