Tom Hiddleston Replaces Benedict Cumberbatch in Crimson Peak

After Benedict Cumberbatch left the project last month, fans have been wondering who might take over his leading role in Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak. Today, Legendary Pictures reveals that none other than Marvel’s The Avengers star Tom Hiddleston has been cast in the haunted house thriller.

Legendary will produce Crimson Peak and be a participating financing partner on the movie with Universal Pictures retaining an option to also finance at a later date. The film, which is set to begin shooting in January 2014, also includes Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Hunnam.

Hiddleston will soon be reprising his role as Loki in Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World and can soon be seen as part of the ensemble cast of Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive.
