Taika Waititi, Paul Giamatti & More Join Rick and Morty Season 4

As if fans weren’t already thrilled about the upcoming fourth season of the acclaimed Adult Swim animated sci-fi comedy Rick and Morty, they have not one, not two, but four new reasons to be excited as Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Paul Giamatti (Billions), Kathleen Turner (Romancing the Stone) and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) have joined the cast, according to Entertainment Weekly.

In an interview with EW, creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon discussed acquiring the four talented actors for guest roles in the fourth season, with Waititi and Neill playing characters of the same species that have a “Kiwi flavor” to them.

Rick and Morty had been previously renewed for 70 episodes, spread out over an undetermined amount of seasons, although a typical Rick and Morty season is 10 episodes.

The duo revealed that the fourth season will indeed run for 10 of these episodes and that their goal for future seasons is to have a quicker turnaround than the notorious gap between the second and third season.

Every single season there’s a little bit of anxiety: Now what’s our definition of having fun and being good? Are we going to continue to be difficult on ourselves because that seems to be an ingredient in the quality? It’s our job to relax and be happy — because that’s another huge ingredient,” Harmon said. “I think that happens on every show, but it’s just weird when your job is to continue churning out something that you are proud of for its scarcity. You never want to lose sight of your job. Every season you feel like your job is never the same. My answer is getting increasingly confusing.”

We want every episode to be good. There are times we’re like, “Okay, this one will be the worst of the season,” and we’re still compelled to do everything in our power to fix what we think is wrong with it,” Roiland said. “It could be considered one of the reasons the show takes so long. When we get the episodes back in color, it’s easy to see if that we cut this and add that, it will elevate this episode significantly. Sometimes we get them back and are like, “We need to roll our sleeves up and figure this out.” This season’s been good. Pretty excited about this season.”

The two kept mum on specific storylines for the upcoming episodes, but they did state that there will be a serialized element to every episode while each will feature a strong story that stands on its own as well and stated that fans will want to watch all of the episodes in order and should rewatch the entirety of season three ahead of the fourth’s premiere.
