The series will follow the true exploits of Charles Becker, a cop in early 1900s New York, who went to war against the Italian, Jewish and Irish gangs in the NY neighborhood known simply as The Tenderloin. Becker and his crew known as the Strong-Arm Squad weren’t exactly saints; a fact that led to Becker being executed for murder.

“Long before Miranda Rights or the fictional series The Shield, there was the very real Charles Becker, a police officer living by his own moral code,” History Executive Vice President Eli Lehrer told Deadline. “This is a passion project for Sylvester, who has discovered new facts on Becker’s case that shed new light on this infamous anti-hero. We look forward to joining forces with him to bring this incredible story to History audiences.”

The show comes as part of A+E Networks in association with Balboa Productions.
