Doctor Who Confirmed for 2014 Season

Following this weekend’s cliffhanger season finale, “The Name of the Doctor,” the BBC has announced that a new season of “Doctor Who” will air in 2014 with Steven Moffat returning as lead writer and executive producer. Returning cast members, however, will likely not be revealed until after the show’s 50th anniversary special, set to air November 23.

“[T]hat’s when the TARDIS returns in the frankly Earth-shattering adventure that celebrates half a century of Doctor Who,” the official synopsis reads. “This 3D special stars Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman with David Tennant and John Hurt, seen briefly at the end of ‘The Name of the Doctor’. Billie Piper returns alongside Jemma Redgrave, Joanna Page… and the Zygons!”

The network also confirmed that, prior the 2014 episodes (marking the eighth modern season), a Christmas special will also arrive in December of this year. That’s in addition to the new “An Adventure in Space and Time” series that dramatizes the real-life creation of everyone’s favorite Timelord.
