Carrie Coon, Natalie Paul, and Hannah Gross join The Sinner season two

The cast for USA‘s second season of the hit crime mystery The Sinner has just gotten bigger as the network has announced the additions of actresses Carrie Coon, Natalie Paul and Hannah Gross to the series.

The first season, which was set around a woman in a small town who murders a man and goes to jail while the search to find why she did it continues, was a relatively large hit for the network, which aired the series in the summer and saw increasingly better ratings and very positive reviews from critics, including two Golden Globe nominations for Best Miniseries and Best Actress for Jessica Biel in the lead role. Though the storyline was seemingly wrapped up in the first season, USA chose to give the series a second outing.

The second season is set to feature the return of Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) as he investigates the murder of an 11-year-old boy and how those around the boy and town are seemingly protecting some secret.

Coon, well-known for her roles in Gone Girl and The Leftovers and having just appeared in Avengers: Infinity War, will portray Vera, a mysterious woman working against Ambrose who is conflicted in upholding the community’s ideals and fulfilling her desires. Natalie Paul, coming off the hit first season of HBO’s The Deuce, will play Heather, a detective in training in Ambrose’s hometown who calls him for assistance in solving the murder, which has seemingly no motive. Hannah Gross, who was most recently seen in Netflix’s acclaimed Mindhunter, is set to play Marin, Heather’s high school friend who disappeared years ago mysteriously.

Alba will return as an executive producer, as her character’s story has been resolved, and after she recently teased the series will be returning this summer, USA has confirmed that the second season will debut this August.
