Click Bait of the Day: Is An Annabelle & Chucky Crossover Possible?

USA Today is running some supreme click bait this morning that even I can’t pass up, but I’ll add my thoughts on all of this down below. Don Mancini, the creator of Chucky, told the outlet that he would love to see his malicious doll team up with Annabelle, the star of the weekend box office hit Annabelle, at some point.
“I can see that (even) in 20 years from now,” Mancini said, adding: “We would be into it, the only problem is that we are in different studios. That would probably be years worth of red tape to work it out,” says Mancini. “But if it all could be worked out, then yes, we’re very into it.”

Review: All Too Familiar Frights Plague Annabelle

Annabelle starts out with a bang. Soon-to-be parents John and Mia think they have it all. John’s a successful doctor, they have a child on the way, and they live next door to their best friends, Sharon and Pete Higgins. Everything in their lives is serene and solid. That is, until one night, when they are maliciously attacked in their own home by members of a satanic cult, and barely escape with their lives. As if being targeted isn’t traumatizing enough, both of the assailants die inside John and Mia’s house. Mia’s always been a fan of vintage dolls, but the image of her female predator holding her newest prized possession as she took her last breath is just too much to bear. John agrees that they need to put this event behind them, so they throw out the doll, move into a new home, and attempt to make a fresh start. Little do they know, their porcelain friend has other plans.

Shock Interviews: Talking With the Director & Cast of Annabelle!

A little over a year after the release, and success, of The Conjuring, Warner Bros. and New Line bring horror fans Annabelle, a film that acts as a spin-off and a prequel to the aforementioned James Wan-directed movie.
John Leonetti is in the director’s seat. He served as the director of photography on many of Wan’s films; he even shot Child’s Play 3. Recently, I sat down with Leonett and Annabelle cast members Ward Horton, Annabelle Wallis and Alfre Woodard. Leonetti opens up about how he wanted to approach the film and how he maintained discussions with Wan in order to keep the film feeling like it was within the world of The Conjuring. The actors, meanwhile, talk about their time working in the horror film. Woodard, meanwhile, gets pretty candid when she discusses her encounter and handling of the Annabelle doll.

Annabelle is Resting in the First Photo Released from the Film

Dolls need to rest, too. Warner Bros./New Line released the first official photo from Annabelle, the spin-off to The Conjuring. And what do we have? The eponymous doll is just chillin’. We’ve got our protagonists in the background. Looks like the wife is pregnant, so I’m sure some “baby” fears will come into play in the film.

Miss Me? The Annabelle Film Gets a Trailer!

October 3rd sees the release of The Conjuring spin-off, Annabelle, and today we have the trailer for you, courtesy of Warner Bros./New Line. Directed by John Leonetti, the film was produced by James Wan and stars Annabelle Wallis (an actual actress, not the doll) and Ward Horton. A bit of trivia for you: Leonetti was the director of photography on The Conjuring.
The Annabelle doll was seen at the start of The Conjuring as a possessed item terrorizing a group of 20-somethings. Her reign of terror ended when Ed and Lorraine Warren obtained the doll and added them to their collection of supernatural items.

‘Annabelle’ Release Date Official Now, Confirms Warner Bros.

A few months back, Warner Bros. and New Line set an October 3rd release date for an unknown horror film. We speculated it was Annabelle. Turns out we were spot-on with that guess. Both entities confirmed the release date today. And, get this, it’s getting a theatrical release.

Directed by John Leonetti, the film was produced by James Wan and is a spin-off of last year’s hit The Conjuring. Leonetti served as the director of photography on The Conjuring.

Discussion: Are Audiences Getting Tired of the Supernatural?

Deliver Us from Evil opened at the start of the 4th of July holiday weekend. To date, it has grossed $15 million since opening Wednesday, July 2nd, but box office analysts are focusing their targets on the film’s $9.5 million weekend gross and taking fire. Understandable. That’s a pretty weak weekend performance. It was up against the new comedy Tammy and holdovers likes Transformers, 22 Jump Street and How to Train Your Dragon. If you recall, Deliver Us from Evil was pushed up from its original 2015 release date because Sony was so confident in the film that it thought Deliver could earn some big bucks akin to The Conjuring’s mid-summer success last year.

Regardless of the quality of Deliver Us from Evil, I honestly think the film would have had a tough go of it at the box office because, more or less…audiences are getting supernatural fatigue.

Mount, Jacobs Join Visions, Woodard Meets Annabelle

Here’s some casting news we’ll lump together. Nothing huge, but updates on some projects we’re watching closely. First, 12 Years a Slave’s Alfre Woodard has been cast in Annabelle, the spin-off of The Conjuring. She’ll join Annabelle Wallis and Ward Horton in the film which is being directed by John Leonetti. Warner Bros./New Line is distributing.

The Conjuring Spin-Off Confirmed, Annabelle Movie Pushes Forward

Back in November, rumblings began of a spin-off centered around The Conjuring, last year’s horror hit directed by James Wan. Today, The Wrap confirms that a new film is going to begin production later this month called Annabelle. Yes, they’re giving us the story of that creepy-ass doll from the beginning of The Conjuring.

Conjuring cinematographer John Leonetti is going to direct with James Wan sharing producing duties.

Annabelle at the Center of a Spin-Off of The Conjuring

Warner Bros. and New Line are putting some serious faith behind what The Conjuring offered over the summer (and by “offer,” I mean thrills and box office bucks).

We already know that a sequel is in the works with Chad and Carey Hayes returning to script.  While there are a lot of rumored plot details, nothing has been confirmed.

But that’s not all.  The studio is apparently at work on a spin-off film.
