Through his many credits on both the big and small screens, Sean Bean is still best known for fantasy epics like The Lord of the Rings and “Game of Thrones.” This Friday, the “Legends” star adds another fantastic universe to his credits with Jupiter Ascending, the latest feature film from The Matrix helmers Andy and Lana Wachowski.
The new film follows a young woman named Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) who, despite living a decidedly less than privileged life on Earth, finds out that’s she’s the genetic reincarnation of the ruler of an extraterrestial dynasty and, as such, is next in line to inherit the Earth.
Bean plays Stinger Apini, an expertly trained hunter genetically bred with the DNA of a bee. Formerly the commanding officer of Channing Tatum’s Caine (who was bred with that of a wolf), an incident in Stinger’s past has led to him being stationed on Earth with his daughter. There, he becomes a key player in the battle to save the planet after crossing paths with Mila Kunis’ Jupiter Jones.
ComingSoon.net sat down to speak with Bean about finding the humanity in a technically inhuman character and working to achieve the visionary spectacle of the Wachowskis’ bigger-than-life science fiction universe. Check it out in the player below and catch Jupiter Ascending in theaters tomorrow, February 6.
