The Anarchy Trailer Adapts Shakespeare as a Crime Thriller

Formerly titled Cymbeline after the William Shakespeare’s play, Lionsgate has just released the Anarchy trailer and you can check it out in the player below! Starring Academy Award nominees Ethan Hawke (Boyhood, Predestination) and Ed Harris (The Hours, Pain and Gain), the crime thriller hits theaters and On Demand March 13.

Also starring Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element, the Resident Evil franchise), John Leguizamo (ChefJohn Wick), Penn Badgley (Easy A, “Gossip Girl”), Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of GreyNeed for Speed), Anton Yelchin (Star TrekOnly Lovers Left Alive, The EqualizerIndependence Day), Delroy Lindo (Up, “Believe”) and Kevin Corrigan (The DepartedA Winter’s Tale), Anarchy offers a gritty, contemporary take on the Bard, following a take-no-prisoners war between dirty cops and an outlaw biker gang that comes to a head when Now (Harris), a drug kingpin, is driven to desperate measures.

Anarchy is directed by Michael Almereyda from his own adapted screenplay. Almereyda, who has also helmed features like Nadja and Trance, is well known for having previously worked with Hawke on another contemporary take on Shakespeare, Hamlet. Released in 2000. In that film, that take featured Hawke as the Dane opposite Kyle MacLachlan, Julia Stiles, Liev Schreiber, Bill Murray and Sam Shepard.

Anarchy hits theaters in a limited release and will also be available On Demand beginning March 13, 2015.
