Jesse Eisenberg Compares Comic Con to “Genocide,” Fans React

How would you expect the star of one of the most talked about films of 2016 to describe his experience going to San Diego Comic Con? Hectic? Crazy? Miserable? Overwhelming? All would probably qualify.

However, if you’re Jesse Eisenberg, “genocide” seems to be how you would describe your Comic-Con experience. In an interview with AP while promoting the upcoming The End of the Tour, the actor who will soon be seen as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had some harsh words about his experience at the convention.

“It is like being screamed at by thousands of people. I don’t know what the experience is throughout history, probably some kind of genocide. I can’t think of anything that’s equivalent,” he said.

Unfortunately for him, fans (not so shockingly) don’t seem to agree with that comparison:

Ouch. Eisenberg isn’t known as being the most personable actor in Hollywood, but he clearly needs to pick his words more carefully. This is capping off a weekend that was a huge win for Warner Bros. and Batman v Superman, in particular. The extended trailer has been getting rave reviews from many fans, and the thousands in attendance in Hall H were ecstatically praising the cast’s discussion panel. Alas, some of that goodwill might be lost with comments like that.

I’m sure we’ll hear from Eisenberg soon enough so that he can apologize and attempt to calm the fans down. Until then, it’s probably a good thing he’s not active on Twitter.
