Jennifer Jason Leigh Takes Lead Female Role in Tarantino’s ‘Hateful Eight’

With names such as Jennifer Lawrence, Evan Rachel Wood, Geena Davis and Hilary Swank leading the charge when it came to the rumored list of actors lining up to take the lead female role in Quentin Tarantino‘s next film, The Hateful Eight, it is most likely to come as a surprise to learn that role has gone to none other than Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Leigh will take the role of Daisy Domergue, a character portrayed by Amber Tamblyn during Tarantino’s live read. While I haven’t read the screenplay that began circling the Internet last spring I do know Leigh is older than Tamblyn, which suggests he may have added a few years of wisdom to the character in his rewrites.

As for the story, the ensemble Western centers on bounty hunters returning human plunder to a town called Red Rock in exchange for hefty rewards who run into a Southerner on the road. The three of them, along with their driver arrive at a haberdashery to take shelter from an oncoming blizzard. The proprieters are nowhere to be found, only four men in their ‘stead. Daisy is a prisoner on the stagecoach driven by the bounty hunters.

Right now, Leigh, along with Kurt Russell, is one of the only names remotely confirmed for the movie, though actors such as Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, James Remar, Walt Goggins and Zoe Bell are on the list of names expected to join the cast.

The film is planned for a late 2015 release. [The Wrap]
