‘Daredevil’ Planned as One 13-Episode Movie at Netflix, First Look at ‘Agent Carter’

Hayley Atwell as Agent Carter from Captain America: The First Avenger will return, only this time on ABC in a new series aptly titled “Marvel’s Agent Carter”. The show is only a short-order series, which will most likely run during the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (which was just renewed for a second season) mid-season break, and is expected to tie in with “SHIELD”.

The show will be based on the “Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter” short film (watch clip to the right) found on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray. Here’s the show’s logline:

It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers.

In other Marvel news, the CBR the following:

I’m very involved with the show, as well as everything that we’re doing with the Netflix shows. I’m incredibly excited, plus the dark and gritty noir world of DD and the Netflix characters, it’s kind of where I live so it naturally attracts me to begin with.

One of the advantages is really from the planning stage — obviously it’s much easier to work with a smaller number of episodes than it is with a larger number of episodes. We can sit there and look at 13 episodes and plan it out as a very large movie. It makes seeing the bigger picture a little bit easier…

The Netflix model offers us the advantage of being able to construct the show in a manner that is very different than a weekly network TV show… With weekly TV, you sit there and go, “The audience may not want to wait two or three weeks to get this particular bit of information.” Whereas with Netflix, we might be able to hold onto a particular piece of information, because they may just watch it two hours later.

The Netflix deal with Disney and Marvel will bring Marvel’s “flawed heroes of Hell’s Kitchen” characters to Netflix, which includes Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

Quesada has also confirmed previously these Netflix series, like “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and now “Marvel’s Agent Carter” will exist within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Daredevil”, however, is still two years away so you have a lot of time to speculate as to how all of this will play out.
