I have updated the 2014 Awards Calendar with all the important dates concerning the upcoming 2014 Oscars.
The date for this year’s ceremony was up in the air as I noted earlier this month, but the Academy ultimately decided on the expected date of Sunday, March 2, 2014 for the 2014 Oscars. Events such as the Super Bowl on February 2 followed by the Winter Olympics forced the later date on the Academy, but don’t think it’s going to be like this every year.
Along with announcing the key dates for the 2014 Oscar race, the Academy also announced a Sunday, February 22, 2015 date for the 87th Academy Awards in an attempt to get ahead of the curve.
As for this year’s schedule of events, they are as follows:
- Saturday, November 16, 2013: The Governors Awards
- Monday, December 2, 2013: Official Screen Credits due
- Friday, December 27, 2013: Nominations voting begins
- Wednesday, January 8, 2014: Nominations voting ends 5 p.m. PT
- Thursday, January 16, 2014: Oscar nominations announced
- Monday, February 10, 2014: Nominees Luncheon
- Friday, February 14, 2014: Final voting begins
- Saturday, February 15, 2014: Scientific and Technical Awards
- Tuesday, February 25, 2014: Final voting ends 5 p.m. PT
- Oscar Sunday, March 2, 2014: 86th Academy Awards
I’ve added the majority of those dates to my 2014 Awards Calendar, which also includes the 2014 Screen Actors Guild Awards, which will take place on January 18, 2014 followed a day later by the Producers Guild Awards and on January 25 the Directors Guild will announce their winner.

When it comes to the later date this year, I actually like it and wouldn’t mind if it was somewhere around mid-March each year, giving audiences and votes more time to see all the films. However, it’s a business as much as it is an awards ceremony.
