‘Skyfall’, ‘Perks of Being a Wallflower’, Bond Blu-ray Singles and More on DVD and Blu-ray Today

This Week On DVD and Blu-ray: February 12, 2013

Wow, this is actually a pretty great week for new DVD and Blu-ray releases.

Before we get to the list, I want to direct your attention to the [amazon asin=”B006U1J5ZY” text=”Bond 50: The Complete 22 Film Collection”] which is the Blu-ray Deal of the Week at Amazon for $129.99, $170 off the retail price. You can buy that [amazon asin=”B006U1J5ZY” text=”here”], but I also want to direct your attention to the “Even More” section below as several of the previously unreleased James Bond Blu-ray titles are available today as Blu-ray singles. So, if you don’t want the complete collection, you can buy individual titles such as Diamonds Are Forever, Octopussy, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Spy Who Loved Me or my personal favorite, The Living Daylights individually rather than in the complete collection.

Of course, today also marks the release of Skyfall on Blu-ray and as a courtesy you can just click here and take a look at all of them together and decide from there. Otherwise, let’s get to today’s new releases…

Skyfall on DVD Blu-ray today
It bothers me a little that I don’t really care to own Skyfall. To me it doesn’t really feel all that much like a Bond film, even less so than Quantum of Solace. Of course, people all over the world disagree with me as it’s made over $1.1 billion worldwide, surpassing The Dark Knight Rises, but that’s the nature of the business. It’s still a good movie and I expect it will be selling millions upon millions of copies, but if I check it out again it will be on Netflix.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Now here’s a movie I would actually consider buying, especially if I was about ten years younger. The Perks of Being a Wallflower made my list of the top ten movies of 2012 and after seeing it multiple times I’d gladly watch it again.

The Sessions
The Sessions on DVD Blu-ray today
Now here’s a movie you’re going to want to, at the very least, rent. The Sessions is great in the way you will love it the first time you see it. Helen Hunt, John Hawkes, William H. Macy and Moon Bloodgood are all great in it and while it’s not necessarily a movie you’ll go back to often, making it a film I wouldn’t really recommend buying, be sure to at least watch it once.

The Kid With a Bike (Criterion Collection)
I have yet to see The Kid with a Bike despite all the love it has received since debuting at Cannes two years ago. In fact, I’ve never seen any of Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne’s films, which I understand is something I need to remedy. All in good time…

Silent Hill: Revelation
This arrived at my house only a couple of days ago and I’ve actually been trying to start watching some “Breaking Bad” episodes on Netflix Instant and I have Criterion’s On the Waterfront in my “must watch” pile so this got pushed to the side. That said, I’m certainly a little curious to see how this turned out.

The Man with the Iron Fists

I also had this one sent to me, but the reviews from both critics and those that saw it weren’t exactly forgiving. Anyone see this and recommend I do the same?

Robot and Frank

Looks good, just not a title I feel the urge to rush and watch.

Bully on DVD Blu-ray today
I am not a fan of this documentary in the slightest. I felt it was far too one-sided and obvious to be effective in its message. It’s an important subject, but this doc simply didn’t work.
