Watch the Short Film that Inspired the Guillermo del Toro Produced Horror ‘Mama’

On Christmas my family and I were watching television when a trailer for the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror Mama played on the television and my fiancee said, “Oh, so Jessica Chastain is now selling out after Zero Dark Thirty.” I wasn’t watching the trailer, but knew exactly what trailer must be playing and said something along the lines of, “No, that’s actually a Guillermo del Toro production that is supposed to be pretty good.” My sister added, “Well it certainly looks scary as hell.”

Starring Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Mama is based on a short film from Andres and Barbara Muschietti with Andres directing the feature adaptation. The story tells the tale of two little girls who disappeared into the woods the day their parents were killed. When they are rescued years later and begin a new life, they find that someone or something still wants to come tuck them in at night.

Today the original short film has come online with an introduction by del Toro and you can check it out directly below. Mama hits theaters on January 18 and you can check out the trailer and a few pictures from the film here.
