RZA Joins Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’

I saw A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas last night, in which RZA plays a part in one of the film’s best moments as a Christmas tree salesman alongside Da’Vone McDonald (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and while he works on his directorial debut, The Man with the Iron Fists, which he co-wrote with Eli Roth and is currently shooting G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation as Blind Master, he’s now prepping to star in Quentin Tarantino’s new movie, Django Unchained.

Variety wrote last night that the Wu-Tang Clan star would play Thaddeus, a slave working on a Southern plantation, in Tarantino’s next film which centers on Django (Jamie Foxx), a freed slave who seeks to reunite with Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), his slave wife, a journey which will see him team up with Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), a German bounty hunter, to take down Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), an evil plantation owner.

The site also confirms that Frozen River co-star (that film’s true best performance) Misty Upham has landed a role as a bar owner named Minnie.

RZA and Upham join other previously named cast members Samuel L. Jackson, Gerald McRaney, Dennis Christopher, Kurt Russell, M.C. Gainey, Don Johnson, Tom Savini, Anthony LaPaglia and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Filming is expected in New Orleans in January for a Christmas Day 2012 release.
