Christian Ditter in Talks to Direct Drew Barrymore’s How To Be Single

Drew Barrymore is getting ready to return in a big way by co-producing How To Be Single, an adaptation of Liz Tuccilo’s novel that was set up at New Line back in 2008. Variety is reporting that the project is moving forward with the studio in talks with director Christian Ditter to helm the movie.

Ditter has directed a number of kids movies as well as the unreleased romantic comedy Love, Rosie, starring Sam Claflin and Lily Collins, which will be distributed by Lionsgate in the UK sometime next year. It was the latter which convinced New Line to approach Ditter for the directing gig.

The adaptation of Tucillo’s novel about a 38-year-old woman searching for love in New York City–boy, that sounds original–is written by Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn with Dana Fox doing the most recent rewrites.

It’s not clear whether Barrymore will have a role in the ensemble or will just produce with her Flower Films partner Nancy Juvonen, but the duo already had a substantial hit with their adaptation of Tucillo’s previous novel He’s Just Not That Into You, again at New Line. That ensemble romantic comedy grossed over $178 million worldwide.

Plans are to start casting the film and shoot it next year for a 2015 release.
