Benedict Cumberbatch to Star in How to Stop Time

ScreenDaily is reporting that Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange, Sherlock, Star Trek Into Darkness) is set to star in How to Stop Time, StudioCanal’s adaptation of “The Girl Who Saved Christmas” author Matt Haig’s next adult novel.

A romantic fantasy spanning centuries and continents, the film follows Tom Hazard (Cumberbatch),who looks like an ordinary 41-year-old man but has a rare condition that has kept him alive for centuries.

StudioCanal UK CEO Danny Perkins said, “We are delighted to be continuing our successful relationship with Matt Haig as well as build upon our long-running and dynamic partnership with SunnyMarch, Benedict Cumberbatch and Adam Ackland. This compelling novel will make for a powerful film that falls in line with StudioCanal’s ongoing commitment to British talent, storytelling and production. We look forward to bringing it to audiences around the world.”

StudioCanal is fully financing How to Stop Time, and will distribute in the UK, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand. Cumberbatch’s production company SunnyMarch will produce the film, with Adam Ackland producing and Cumberbatch executive producing.

Cumberbatch will next be seen reprising his role as Doctor Strange in Thor: Ragnarok, and is also filming a role as the character in Marvel’s star-studded Avengers: Infinity War. He will also perform Shere Khan in Andy Serkis’s Jungle Book, and portray Thomas Edison in The Current War opposite Nicholas Hoult and Michael Shannon.
