Todd McFarlane Still Beats the Spawn Remake Drum

We’ve been hearing it for years.  We’ve been getting updates on how progress is going at the script level.  We’ve read about why it has been delayed.  And I’m pretty positive we’ve read a news story each year in which McFarlane says, “The movie starts shooting next year!” and then that year passes without a new Spawn film.

So, here we are again, with McFarlane back in the spotlight talking to the press about Spawn.  Where’s it at now, Todd?

“The reality is that I’ve got a lot of pressure. They want me to deliver the script by the end of the year, which would basically mean we’d be shooting next year. So, that’s the goal right now,” he told the Canadian outlet, The Gate.  “The thing that keeps slowing it down is that the negotiation I’ve done is I write, produce, direct, but I’ve got to push a lot of my other endeavours off to the side so I can just get tunnel vision on it. And so everybody at my company is now going, ‘We’ve got to find Todd the time to finish all this.’”

He added that he anticipates the project being a 60-70 day shoot.  A “quick shoot” he calls it (although that’s not a “quick” shoot by any means).

McFarlane hopes some “big names” will come to the table once the project is ready to go.

We.  Will.  See.

In other news, the original Spawn film is playing on heavy rotation on HBO.
