Plot Summary: "American Teen" is the touching and hilarious Sundance hit that follows the lives of five teenagers - a jock, a popular girl, a heartthrob, an artsy girl and a geek – in one small town in Indiana through their senior year of high school. We see the insecurities, the cliques, the jealousies, the first loves and heartbreaks, and the struggle to make profound decisions about the future.

Filming daily for ten months, filmmaker Nanette Burstein ("On the Ropes," "The Kid Stays in the Picture") developed a deep understanding of her subjects. The result is a film that goes beyond the enduring stereotypes of high school to render complex young people trying to find their way into adulthood.

Hannah Bailey is smart and beautiful, but a misfit in her high school. She is a liberal, atheist living in a traditional, Christian, conservative town and dreams of moving to California after graduation. Colin Clemens is the star of the high school basketball team - and in Indiana, basketball is everything. Colin is under enormous pressure this year playing not only to make his town, his school, and his father proud, but for a college scholarship. Jake Tusing is considered to be a nerd in high school. Though quite funny and charming one-on-one, he is painfully shy in group situations and crushed with self-doubt. In his senior year he vows that nothing will stand in the way of him finding a girlfriend. Megan Krizmanich is the student council Vice President and the youngest daughter of a prominent local surgeon, anxiously awaiting word from Notre Dame University admissions. Wealthy, pretty, smart and popular, she rules her high school - just don't get on her bad side. When Megan’s peers challenge her authority, she can’t help but take action, even if it means risking her future. Mitch Reinholdt is an attractive and charming Varsity basketball jock with a soft side. When he puts his social status on the line, avoiding his popular friends for dates with artsy Hannah Bailey, he strains to maintain his reputation while discovering a new side of himself.

With extraordinary intimacy and a great deal of humor, "American Teen" captures the pressures of growing up – pressures that come from one's peers, one's parents, and not least, oneself.

This is life as we know it!! Awesome, true , raw and heartbreaking.Every teen should see it from someone else's eyes. This is my school and your school, too. Open your minds and your hearts!!

What a bunch of crap! Apparently all the strife in the world pales in comparison to the angst of five teens from mid-west America. I'm glad someone paid money to make this documentary to help open our eyes to the horrifying tragedies that befall these poor kids.

Is it just me or did they purposely make the poster look nearly identical to that of the Breakfast Club?? I am soo glad I live in Ny ad don't have to deal with some meaningless crap that happens to these kids. Heck, my school is to large to have cliques and leave people out. Thank God for diversity.

This looks amazing. I'm an Indiana boy, and just from the trailer I can tell they did an amazing job. This is what it's all about...

To hate....

you're totaly missing the point. This is a documentary about stuff that we ALL face, and it's something that I feel is kinda needed now. I don't know about you, but I'm sick of seeing all the violence and hate on TV. This is perfect. It has a sense of Nostalgia to it.

How in the hell can you say that these are issues "we ALL face"!? Thats one of the worst blanket statements I have ever heard. Not to mention the idiotic labels that it places upon people, "the jock, the nerd, the prom queen, etc.." go to an inner city school and see if you find people who fit those stereotypes. I doubt you will. This film is about a bubble in our society that is sheltered from many issues that plague areas that aren't so luck, being from Indiana you may have gone to a school similar to this and be able to relate to some of its situations but the fact that this is a documentary titled "American Teen" tries to imply that every teen goes through this. I can tell you right now that lots of teens have more serious problems on their minds than which college to play ball for or is the nerd going to get a girlfriend. Personally I am offended that its titled "American Teen", I feel it should be changed to "Teen Angst: the insignificant problems of a bunch of cry babies". But that is simply my view.

Hey you all would be suprised. I go to the school that they filmed this movie in. I know 2 of the main characters. I was a sophmore during the filming time and now I am completing my senior year. You may not realize it now but at some point we all worried about these things. Fitting in, poularity, scholarships, and colleges. The pressure is big and we shake it off. This movie is just showing what a teen deals with during thier senior year of high school.
