Sales of Lion King 1 1/2 Reach Six Million Units

Sales of the critically acclaimed The Lion King 1 1/2 have now reached six million combined DVD/VHS units in North America since its release, it was announced today by Bob Chapek, President of Buena Vista Home Entertainment. Based on these sales figures, The Lion King 1 1/2 is now the best-selling video and DVD so far this year.

DVD is growing rapidly, particularly now among the mainstream audiences at exponential rates, with families driving the growth. Sixty percent of households now own a DVD player, making DVD a staple of home entertainment. As the household percentage penetration increases, DVD sales in the family genre have also increased.
