Reports have emerged on WWE’s decision to tease Cody Rhodes and Logan Paul in a title vs. title match at the WWE King & Queen of the Ring. Following WWE SmackDown, General Manager Nick Aldis revealed Logan Paul as Cody Rhodes’s next challenger.
Cody Rhodes, who said he wanted to be a grand slam champion, had also challenged Logan Paul for the WWE US title. Immediately, fans speculated that their match at the WWE King and Queen of the Ring could see both titles on the line. In fact, Rhodes teased it following the match announcement, indicating that he would go after Paul’s title.
However, last week on WWE SmackDown, Logan Paul managed to pull tricks by tearing up the original contract for the match. Paul stated that he never intended to put his title on the line and emphasized that the original contract did not specify what he agreed to, which was that only Cody’s title should be on the line. Following this, it was announced that Rhodes would put his title on the line.
Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer revealed the reasons behind WWE’s tease of a title vs. title match. According to Meltzer, WWE used this tactic to generate “heat” on Paul from the fans. The plan was to make fans think that both titles would be at stake and then have Paul backtrack to ensure he would not risk losing his championship, which would compel fans to go against him.
Initially teased as a title vs. title match, the bout is now specifically for the WWE Undisputed Championship. This will be Logan Paul’s second opportunity at the title. Previously, he fought against Roman Reigns for this championship in 2022.
Logan Paul’s next potential opponent after WWE King & Queen of the Ring
As Logan Paul prepares to face Cody Rhodes this weekend in Saudi Arabia for the WWE title, the promotion has already hinted at Paul’s potential next opponent. Last week on WWE SmackDown, Logan Paul, accompanied by Nick Aldis, walked backstage. Aldis opened the door of his office when LA Knight stepped out. The former immediately stepped in to calm the situation down by inviting Paul into the office.
It seems that LA Knight could be Logan Paul’s next opponent. This match could potentially take place at WWE SummerSlam in Cleveland in August, Paul’s hometown.
