A Very British Scandal Trailer Sets Prime Video Debut for Limited Drama

Prime Video has revealed the full trailer for the upcoming U.S. premiere of the BBC limited series A Very British Scandal, starring Claire Foy and Paul Bettany. The historical British drama will be available for streaming on April 22.

The A Very British Scandal Season 2 trailer, which you can check out below, continues to highlight the tumultuous marriage and divorce between Ian Campbell and Margaret Campbell, the Duke and Duchess of Argyll. Despite both having extramarital affairs, Foy’s Margaret was the only one who was scrutinized due to the evidence that Bettany’s Ian had collected to use against her.

Anne Sewitsky directed the second installment of A Very British Scandal from a screenplay written by Sarah Phelps, with Chris Ballantyne serving as a producer. Joining Foy and Bettany are Amanda Drew, Richard McCabe, Phoebe Nicholls, Camilla Rutherford, Timothy Renouf, Sophia Myles, Sophie Ward, Tim Steed, Katherine Manners, Richard Goulding, Jonathan Aris, Oliver Chris, Nicholas Rowe, and Miles Jupp.

“The second installment focuses on the divorce of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, one of the most notorious, extraordinary, and brutal legal cases of the 20th century,” reads the synopsis. “Famed for her charisma, beauty, and style, Margaret, Duchess of Argyll, dominated the front pages as the divorce exposed accusations of forgery, theft, violence, drug-taking, bribery, and an explicit Polaroid picture that was to haunt her for the rest of her life.

A Very British Scandal turns this scandal inside out in order to explore the social and political climate of post-war Britain, looking at attitudes towards women, and asking whether institutional misogyny was widespread at the time. As her contemporaries, the press, and the judiciary sought to vilify her, Margaret kept her head held high with bravery and resilience, refusing to go quietly as she was betrayed by her friends and publicly shamed by a society that reveled in her fall from grace.”
