Apple TV+ has finally released the teaser trailer for their upcoming dark comedy limited series titled The Shrink Next Door, starring Anchorman alums Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd. The video, which you can check out below, features how a doctor-patient relationship could go beyond a single therapy session as Rudd’s Dr. Ike somehow takes over every aspect of Marty’s life. The series is scheduled to make its debut on Friday, November 12, with the first three episodes. New episodes will premiere weekly every Friday.
Inspired by true events and based on Joe Nocera’s podcast of the same name, The Shrink Next Door details the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf and his longtime patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz. Over the course of their relationship, the all-too-charming Ike slowly inserts himself into Marty’s life, even moving into Marty’s Hamptons home and persuading Marty to name him president of the family business. The series explores how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic morphs into an exploitative relationship filled with manipulation, power grabs, and dysfunction at its finest.
The dark comedy miniseries stars Paul Rudd (Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania) as Ike and Will Ferrell (Elf) as Marty along with Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision) as Phyllis, and Casey Wilson (Happy Endings) as Bonnie.
The Shrink Next Door is directed by Michael Showalter (The Big Sick, The Lovebirds) and Jesse Peretz from a on a script written by Georgia Pritchett (Succession, Veep). Executive producers are Ferrell, Rudd, Nocera, Showalter, Pritchett, Jessica Elbaum, Jordana Mollick, Aaron Hart, Hernan Lopez, Marshall Lewy, Jared Sandberg, Katie Boyce, Francesca Levy and Brittney Segal.
