Mary J. Blige Joins New Cast of MTV’s Scream Season 3

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Oscar nominee and Grammy winner Mary J. Blige (Mudbound, The Help) will be joining the all-new cast of the third season of MTV’s limited series Scream.

Blige is set to play Sherry Elliott, the mother of lead character Delon Elliot (RJ Cyler). The third season of Scream is set in Atlanta and centers on Delon, a star running back for his high school football team whose tragic past comes back to haunt him, threatening both his plans for the future and the lives of his friends.

Blige and Cyler will join castmates Keke Palmer, Tyler Posey, Tyga, Gloria Whigham, Jessica Sula, C.J. Wallance, and Giullian Yao Gioiello.

Season three — which was originally supposed to premiere in March 2018 — has been completely reworked with a new cast, showrunner, and executive producing team. Brett Matthews (The Vampire Diaries) will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere, and Yaneley Arty of Flavor Unit Entertainment who will also executive produce. Wes Craven (Scream movies director), Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena, and Cathy Konrad round out the executive producing team on top of Maggie Malina and Dana Gotlieb-Carter executive producing for MTV.

Scream season three will return later this year as a three-night, six episode event on MTV.
