Freddie Highmore Checks Into Bates Motel

A&E’s upcoming Psycho prequel television series, “Bates Motel,” has cast Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, August Rush) as Norman Bates, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter. He joins Vera Farmiga as Bates’ mother (and a boy’s best friend), Norma Louise Bates in the project officially described as follows:

“Bates Motel” gives viewers an intimate understanding of how Norman Bates’ psyche developed from his childhood through his teen years. Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first hand how his mother, Norma, and her love damaged Norman, helped forge the most well-known serial killing motel owner in history.

“Bates Motel” is produced by Universal Television for A&E Network. The script was written by Anthony Cipriano. For more details about what the series should include, head to ShockTillYouDrop.com.

UPDATE: The outlet is now reporting that Max Thieriot has also joined the cast as the new-to-continuity Dylan Bates. Said to be Norman’s older brother, Dylan is described in ShockTillYouDrop.com‘s report as, a “21-year-old, motorcycle-riding ‘James Dean-like’ brother… who arrives at the home he grew up in only to discover his family is gone and their empty house is now up for sale.”

Thieriot is best known for roles in Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, Jumper and Chloe. He’s also slated to soon appear in Relativity Media’s House at the End of the Street opposite Jennifer Lawrence.
