Vampire Drama Series The Passage Ordered at FOX

FOX has given a series order to the Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Nobodies) vampire drama The Passage, based on the bestselling book trilogy by Justin Cronin. FOX bought the film rights to the original novel before the work was published, but now they’re planning a small screen project.

The Passage, an “epic, character-driven thriller,” stars Gosselaar (Pitch, Franklin & Bash) as federal agent Brad Wolgast, who is charged with protecting a young girl named Amy (Saniyya Sidney) who’s the test subject for a new government virus. According to the official description, the virus “could either cure all disease or cause the downfall of the human race.” In Cronin’s trilogy, the virus triggers an outbreak of vampire-like beings that overrun the planet.

The Passage is written by Elizabeth Heldens (Friday Night Lights, Mercy) who will also serve as executive producer alongside film directors Ridley Scott (Alien: Covenant, The Martian) and Matt Reeves (Let Me In, The Batman).

The supporting cast includes Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire), Brianne Howey (The Exorcist), Jamie McShane (Bloodline), Caroline Chikezie (The Shannara Chronicles), and Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage).
