Juliette Lewis and Bridget Everett Join HBO’s Camping
The HBO series Camping from Girls creators Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner has cast Juliette (Natural Born Killers) and Bridget Everett (Patti Cakes$), according to THR. Jennifer Garner (Alias) is set to star in the lead role as Kathryn Siddell-Bauers. The series has landed an eight-episode order from the network and was written by Dunham and Konner, who also will executive produce through their company, A Casual Romance. Janicza Bravo, Arturo Del Puerto and Brett Gelman have also boarded the series.
Camping is based on the U.K. series created by Julia Davis. It tells the story of Walt’s 45th birthday, which was supposed to be a delightful weekend back to nature, at least according to his obsessively-organized and aggressively-controlling wife, Kathryn (Garner). But when the camping trip gathers Kathryn’s meek sister, holier than though ex-best friend, and a free-spirited Tagalong in one place, it becomes a weekend of tested marriages and woman on woman crime that won’t soon be forgotten.
Camping is the first series Dunham and Konner have created since their six-season HBO comedy Girls ended in 2017. The show was nominated for 19 Primetime Emmy Awards, including twice for best comedy series and twice for Dunham as best actress in a comedy series.
Lewis is playing Janice, a DJ, reiki healer and public accountant. Everett will play Harry, a “tough-talking, nature-loving queen of the campsite who came out as a lesbian at age 3. Her passion for her wife Nan is only beaten by her passion for all other women and an assortment of guns.” Bravo will play Nina-Joy who is reportedly the best at everything and a lifestyle queen, though she has a great deal of tension with Kathryn. Del Puerto will play Miguel who is recently separated and in the middle of a midlife crisis. Gelman plays George, who is obsessed with his friend Walt and his wife Nina-Joy.
