The first official photo of Academy Award winner Penelope Cruz as Donatella Versace in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story has been released by EW. The FX miniseries also stars Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan, Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace, and Ricky Martin as Gianni’s longtime partner Antonio D’Amico. The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story is the third installment of the universally acclaimed, award-winning limited series from Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson.
Production of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story began in April and the series will air in 2018. Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson serve as Executive Producers on The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, which is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.
The image shows Cruz as the sister of murdered fashion designer Gianni Versace in a hot pink gown with two faceless men on either side of her. The shot is from the pool at Villa Casa Casuarina where Gianni lived and where his murder took place. The show was partially filmed at the villa. Gianni Versace was killed in 1997.
Pre-production is also currently in the works for Katrina: American Crime Story, about the aftermath of the hurricane that devastated the American South. The first installment of the series, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, was nominated for 22 Emmy Awards, winning nine, including Outstanding Limited Series. The first season of the anthology series also won two Golden Globe Awards, including Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made For Television; four Critics’ Choice Awards, including Best Movie Made for Television or Limited Series; the WGA Award for Best Adapted Long Form; and was named an AFI Television Program of the Year.
