James Spader in Talks to Join The Office

James Spader is negotiating with NBC to join “The Office” this fall, reports Entertainment Weekly.

The Emmy-winning “Boston Legal” star guest starred in the season finale and has been rumored to be replacing Steve Carell. He would not, however, be the new Dunder Mifflin manager – instead he would take over as CEO of the paper sales company. That means he would technically be replacing Kathy Bates, who will be concentrating more on Season 2 of “Harry’s Law.”

The magazine adds that the deal is not done yet and no scripts have been written for the upcoming season, which starts production in a month.

They add some spoilerish details about Spader’s character – named Robert California – saying that he would be introduced as the new office manager. He thinks that role is too small for him though and convinces the company into appointing him as the new CEO.

That still leaves the manager position open, of course. Who do you think should take the position?
