Valhalla Entertainment and GK-TV today announced they are teaming up to develop and produce period drama series “Port Royal.” Here is the full press release:
GK-tv, a division of GK Films, and Gale Anne Hurds Valhalla Entertainment have partnered to develop and produce a one-hour television series titled PORT ROYAL. Based on an original idea by Hurd, Valhalla brought the project to GK-tv. The two companies will immediately begin developing the project.
Set in the late 17th century on the island of Jamaica, the series will chronicle the namesake ports notorious rise as the richest and wickedest city in the new world, and as a self-governing safe haven for cutthroat pirates, corrupt politicians, and ruthless merchants.
I have been obsessed with pirates and Port Royal for years, and have a library of books on the subject. The real story of privateers and the politics of the era has never been explored on screen, and Im excited to bring that world to life with the terrific team at GK-tv, said Gale Anne Hurd.

Executive producers include Valhalla Entertainment chairman Gale Anne Hurd, GK-tvs Craig Cegielski, and GK Films Graham King and Tim Headington. Valhallas Kris Henigman and Ben Roberts will be the companys creative executives on the series.
Valhalla recently launched the smash hit series The Walking Dead for AMC, and is currently working on a second season.
GK-tvs first television series Camelot starring Joseph Fiennes, Jamie Campbell Bower and Eva Green premieres on Starz, April 1 and will be presented as part of the MIPTV World Premiere TV Screenings in Cannes on April 4, 2011.
