Marvel's Agents of SHIELD Producers Talk the 'New' Grant Ward

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD producers talk Grant Ward’s transformation

When Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD returns next week, it will feature an altered version of Brett Dalton’s Grant Ward, as seen in the mid-season finale, and speaking to Nerdist, series Executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen revealed he has become a version of comic book villain Hive.

“As we saw in the midseason finale episode, Ward is back on Earth, but he’s definitely not the same Ward who went through the portal to the alien world….Our version of Hive is going to have its own unique twist and be very different from what fans have seen so far. We will see similarities that pay homage to the original character, but fans will see that Hive is taking an exciting new direction in the world of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.IE.L.D. Grant Ward has been one of the most compelling characters and captivating villains to write for and Brett Dalton has taken on every challenge with ease and a presence that is unmatched. Ward has evolved in every season of ‘SHIELD’ and we are so excited for fans to see our take (and Brett’s take!) on this well-known character.”

You can check out a new image of Ward’s Hive, a little less tentacle-y than his comic book counter part, below!

Airing on Tuesday, March 8,the mid-season premiere of the series is titled “Bouncing Back” and described as follows: “Their enemy has evolved. Their greatest threat has returned. Can SHIELD reunite the secret warriors to combat a danger unlike any the world has ever seen?”
