One of Netflix‘s popular crime thriller TV shows has finally returned with an all-new, exciting season, more than two years after debuting its first season. The second season of the hit Money Heist spin-off Berlin is once again led by Pedro Alonso, whose fan-favorite character originally died at the end of the main show’s first season. Beginning today, all eight episodes of Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine are now available to stream on Netflix.
What do we know about Netflix’s Berlin Season 2?
Berlin hails from Money Heist creators Esther Martínez Lobato and Álex Pina. The spin-off prequel also stars Tristán Ulloa as Berlin’s confidant Damián, Michelle Jenner as electronics specialist Keila, Begoña Vargas as Cameron, Julio Peña Fernández as Roi, and Joel Sánchez as Bruce. The next installment also features new cast members Inma Cuesta (The Mess You Left Behind), José Luis García-Pérez (Honor), and Marta Nieto (Mother). After Berlin Season 2, the streamer recently confirmed that the Money Heist franchise will continue to expand in a new TV show, featuring the return of Álvaro Morte as The Professor.
“Set in Spain, the new heist will take place in Seville. There, Berlin and his gang will encounter new characters such as Candela, an unpredictable and temperamental Sevillian woman; the eccentric and hedonistic Duke of Malaga Álvaro Hermoso de Medina; and his mysterious and refined Duchess of Malaga Genoveva Dante,” reads the Season 2 logline.
The prequel series was written by Lobato, Pina, David Barrocal, Lorena G. Maldonado, and Itziar San Juan, with Albert Pintó, Barrocal, and Jose Manuel Cravioto directing. Season 1, titled The Jewels of Paris, has garnered a 70% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The titular character was introduced during the first installment of Money Heist as one of the leaders of the crew. Despite the character’s death during the first season’s finale, Alonso was able to reprise the role in the final seasons through flashback scenes.
