Netflix will welcome Season 2 of the live-action adaptation of an iconic animated series next month. The show is returning more than two years after Season 1, which had opened to incredible viewership.
Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 arrives on Netflix in June
Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 will debut on Netflix on Thursday, June 25, 2026. Although the final trailer has yet to be released, the release date has been confirmed (via Tudum). The streamer also released a Season 2 teaser earlier this year.
The show takes place in a world where certain people can manipulate specific elements: water, fire, air, and earth. The story follows the adventures of a 12-year-old Aang, the last surviving Air Nomad and the current Avatar, destined to master all four elements of the world. He sets out on a mission to the master elements to defeat the tyrannical Fire Lord Ozai. He is accompanied by his friends, Katara, Sokka, and Toph.
The original animated series was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko for Nickelodeon. It aired between 2005 and 2008, becoming a global phenomenon. It even garnered a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, Albert Kim and Christine Boylan serve as the showrunners of the live-action adaptation.
In Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 1, the group protected the Northern Water Tribe from the Fire Nation’s invasion. In Season 2, they will be heading to the Earth Kingdom, where Aang will master Earthbending under Toph Beifong’s training.
The cast features Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Ken Leung, and Daniel Dae Kim, among others. Meanwhile, Chin Han, Hoa Xuande, Justin Chien, and Crystal Yu are some of the new additions for the upcoming season.
Unlike the original series, the live-action received a mixed-to-positive reception. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a Tomatometer score of 62% and a Popcornmeter score of 70%. Many viewers have expressed disappointment with the removal of certain story arcs and tonal elements from the original. Despite this, the show opened to an impressive 21.2 million viewers in its opening weekend.
