Netflix has renewed one of its most beloved docu-reality series for a fifth season, but the celebration comes with a bittersweet twist. The streaming giant confirmed the news alongside the surprising exit of one of the show’s most popular returning stars.
Love on the Spectrum renewed for Season 5 but Connor Tomlinson exits
Netflix has renewed Love on the Spectrum for a fifth season following the successful debut of Season 4. The streaming giant confirmed the renewal exclusively to Variety. Season 4 dropped on April 1, coinciding with the start of Autism Awareness Month.
The seven-episode season features returning couples Madison and Tyler, Connor and Georgie, and James and Shelley. It also welcomes newcomers Logan from Las Vegas, Dylan from Los Angeles, and Emma from Utah. The season includes tentative first dates, house-hunting, an amicable breakup, and a tear-jerking proposal.
Fan favorite Connor Tomlinson confirmed to Variety he will not return for Season 5 after three seasons on the show. Tomlinson is pivoting toward an acting career, particularly in voice work and animation. “It is with humility and a heavy heart that I share I will not be partaking in Season 5,” he said.
Tomlinson elaborated on his decision, saying, “I feel like three seasons is enough to tell my story and find love on my own time.” He added, “I’ve chosen to pass the torch to the next person who can make it as big as me.” He also expressed gratitude, saying, “I want to sincerely thank Cian, Sean, and the entire crew for changing my life over the past three years.”
The docu-reality series has won multiple Emmys, including outstanding unstructured reality program and casting in 2025. It also earned Emmy wins in 2024 and 2022. Netflix held the show’s official FYC event for this year’s Primetime Emmys race. The event featured a Q&A moderated by Heated Rivalry star François Arnaud alongside creator Cian O’Clery and several cast members.
