According to the official synopsis, Homelander now dominates the United States while opposition forces attempt to resist his control. The synopsis states: “Homelander controls America through fascist terror, imprisoning dissenters in Freedom Camps.” It adds that “Butcher, Hughie, Annie and The Boys mount a desperate resistance against insurmountable odds to stop his tyrannical rule.”
Season 5 stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso and Chace Crawford, with Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara and Nathan Mitchell also returning. Sony Pictures Television produces the series with Amazon MGM Studios and other partners.
Kripke previously explained his reasoning for ending the series after five seasons. He said: “I would speculate that like I was trained on five acts as a television writer. So, it just makes sense to me have enough time to really get to know the characters but not so long that you wear out your welcome” (via Deadline).
