New space-race drama Star City gets first look, release date and more

Apple TV has unveiled a first look at Star City, a new space-race drama set in the world of For All Mankind, and announced its release date. The eight-episode series will debut globally on Friday, May 29, with two episodes launching on premiere day. New episodes will then roll out weekly every Friday through July 10.

Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert and Ronald D. Moore developed the series to expand the alternate history of the space race. The show presents a paranoid thriller set at a pivotal moment in this reimagined timeline, when the Soviet Union becomes the first nation to land a man on the moon. It tells the story from the Soviet perspective and depicts events unfolding behind the Iron Curtain.

The series centers on the individuals behind the Soviet space program, including cosmonauts, engineers and intelligence officers, and examines the dangers they face as they work to push the boundaries of space exploration. It highlights their roles within the broader mission and the personal and professional stakes involved in advancing the space race.

The ensemble cast includes Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin, Agnes O’Casey, Alice Englert, Solly McLeod, Adam Nagaitis, Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, Josef Davies and Priya Kansara.

Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi lead the series as showrunners and executive producers, working alongside Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis of Tall Ship Productions, Andrew Chambliss and Steve Oster. Sony Pictures Television produces Star City for Apple TV.
