OG Scooby-Doo Star Reacts Unsurprisingly to Mckenna Grace’s Daphne Casting

Netflix solved the mystery of who would next wear Daphne Blake’s iconic scarf in the upcoming Scooby-Doo series, and it turns out the original live-action Daphne is already a fan. As Mckenna Grace prepares to step into the role for Netflix’s forthcoming live-action series, she has received a ringing endorsement from her predecessor, Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Sarah Michelle Gellar ‘excited’ for Mckenna Grace’s Daphne in ‘Scooby-Doo’ series

Sarah Michelle Gellar, who brought Daphne to life in the 2002 film Scooby-Doo and its 2004 sequel Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, is fully on board with the new casting. In a recent interview promoting her film Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, Gellar shared her genuine enthusiasm for Grace taking on the role.

“First of all, she has love for the character, so anytime you love a character, you are made for it,” Gellar explained to Entertainment Tonight. “But I’ve been following her because I think she’s so talented, and I was so excited for Mckenna. I think she’s going to be so great. That girl is booked and busy!” she added.

The upcoming eight-episode Scooby-Doo series on Netflix promises a fresh take on the beloved characters. Described as a modern reimagining, the show will explore the origins of the Mystery Inc. gang. “During their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder,” states the official synopsis.

For Mckenna Grace, stepping into the shoes of Daphne is something of a homecoming. Earlier, she voiced a younger version of the character in the animated film Scoob! (2020) and was going to reprise the role in the shelved Scoob! Holiday Haunt.

The series comes from Midnight Radio, Berlanti Productions, and Warner Bros. Television. Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are serving as showrunners.
