Sarah Michelle Gellar addressed Mckenna Grace’s casting as Daphne Blake in Netflix’s upcoming live action Scooby-Doo series. Sharing Deadline’s report on her Instagram Story, Gellar wrote, “You are going to be perfect!!” Gellar previously portrayed Daphne in the live action films Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.

Netflix cast Mckenna Grace as Daphne in the eight episode live action series, making her the first major star attached to the project. She confirmed the news on Instagram on Feb. 17, writing, “Oh my jeepers, I can’t believe life is real I could cry all over again just looking at this announcement. So thankful, SO excited.” She added a crying emoji and purple heart, followed by a blue car and magnifying glass emoji.
The series, announced in March 2025, is described as a “modern reimagining” revisiting “the terrifying case that started it all.” The official logline states that during their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne team up with “scientific townie Velma and the strange but handsome Fred to solve the mystery of a lonely lost Great Dane puppy — who may have witnessed a supernatural murder.”
Written by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, the series is based on characters created by Hanna-Barbera. Appelbaum and Rosenberg serve as showrunners and executive produce alongside André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner via Midnight Radio. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman executive produce for Berlanti Productions under its Warner Bros. Television deal, with Warner Bros. Television serving as the studio.
