The Man in the High Castle begins streaming on Netflix in March
The Man in the High Castle Seasons 1-4 will start streaming on Netflix from Wednesday, March 11.
The series is loosely based on Philip K. Dick’s 1962 novel of the same name. Its story begins in 1962 but is set in an alternate reality in which the Axis powers won World War II.
In this reality, Nazi Germany controls the East Coast as the Greater Nazi Reich, while Imperial Japan rules the West Coast as the Japanese Pacific States. When Juliana Crain discovers a mysterious film showcasing a reality in which the Allies won World War II, she begins to question the world she lives in.
Before the show materialized, BBC and Syfy had reportedly considered adapting the book. However, Amazon Studios ultimately acquired the rights to it in 2014, making the show one of its first original series. Due to Amazon’s then-unique production structure, it produced only a pilot episode, which aired on January 15, 2015. Following its positive reception, the studio greenlit the remainder of the season, which began streaming on October 23, 2015.
The Man in the High Castle received favorable reviews across all four seasons. It currently has a 84% Tomatometer score and 79% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, it earned several Primetime Emmy nominations and won two in 2016.
The show stars Alexa Davalos as Juliana alongside an expansive cast that includes Luke Kleintank, Rufus Sewell, Joel de la Fuente, Chelah Horsdal, Brennan Brown, DJ Qualls, and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, among others.
The move from Amazon to Netflix comes as part of their agreement to share curated content between the platforms. While it will be available in countries such as the US, UK, and Australia, there is currently no information on whether it will be part of Canada’s Netflix catalog.
